The grey-crowned squirrel monkey, indigenous only to Costa Rica and Panama, has been critically endangered due to the continuing loss of habitat. They require forests with abundant and mid-level vegetation. The major threat to the Mono Titi is deforestation but they are also hunted and captured for sale into the pet trade. The inclusion of the popular plastic 1960s toy ' Barrel of Monkeys' seeks to represent humanity's direct impact on their decline. Three interlinked simians remind us of the legendary mystic monkeys; 'Hear No Evil, speak No Evil, See No Evil'. They embody our human plight, caught between amorality and the much needed drive toward social and emotional evolution.
